Sean Avery and Hilary Rhoda — Hamptons Love Affair

Sean Avery and Hilary Rhoda grace the cover of the latest issue of Hamptons magazine.

Sean Avery and Hilary Rhoda grace the cover of the latest issue of Hamptons magazine.

Former New York Ranger-turned Hamptons homebuilder/swimsuit designer Sean Avery and his lady love, model Hilary Rhoda are getting married at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill in the fall.

The two, who grace the cover of the latest Hamptons magazine, spend considerable time at their Southampton Village home. They have been engaged since November 2013 and are often seen out and about on the East End.

Curbed recently reported that Avery has snatched up a couple other properties in his Prospect Street neighborhood and is working on construction/remodels. The former pro hockey player—who has famously interned at Vogue, modeled, become a restaurateur and adman, and tested the waters as an actor—will be showcasing his eclectic taste, which tends toward modern, at the four investment properties.

In the Hamptons magazine piece, Avery says that they don’t need a wedding planner, that he could do the job himself in a couple of weeks and that the event would run smoothly. The lovebirds are also partners in their Solid & Striped swimsuit collection.

Sean Avery on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Sean Avery on 'Dancing with the Stars'

I’ve got to start with an explanation of this picture.
Sean showed up at the La Palestra kids fundraising event at East Hampton Studios in Wainscott this summer with contemporary artist Tom Sachs. They were purposely hand in hand for the first moments on the red carpet and at the step and repeat (sorry, I know the lighting is horrendous) and I incorrectly assumed that they were a couple.
I’m not a hockey fan but I did know that the former Rangers left wing (obviously I had to look that up) was into fashion, had interned at Vogue, was friends with Mastic Beach’s Anna Wintour and close friends with Shelter Island’s Andy Cohen; thus furthering my assumption. You know what they say about assuming ….
The day after the benefit, I did some research and couldn’t find anything about Sean being gay and I was certainly not going to be the jerk to out him, so I never posted any of the photos–even though this is totally adorable. Since, I’ve learned that he got engaged to model girlfriend Hilary Rhoda in November AND he’s going to be on “Dancing with the Stars” this next season.
I’m a fan of this progressive and cool dude. I like that he’s so open and comfortable with himself and others. I will for sure be rooting for him while watching this guilty pleasure TV.

Big Weekend for Beth and Howard Stern

Big Weekend for Beth and Howard Stern

Happy belated birthday to Howard, who turned 60 on January 12 (Christie Brinkley, Oprah and Howard–60 is the new 30!) and celebrated in GRAND style last night with a giant birthday bash at the Hammerstein Ballroom in the city.
Howard was serenaded by another Hamptons famous face, Jon Bon Jovi, who played “Dead or Alive,” as well as by Adam Levine and Steven Tyler. Shelter Island’s Andy Cohen, Southampton’s Barbara Walters, East Hampton’s Katie Couric and Sagaponack’s Jimmy Fallon also made the cut, as did Steve Tisch, who I see everywhere out here. I guess my invitation got lost in the mail …
A few ther notables at the soiree included: emcee Jimmy Kimmel, Robin Quivers, Rosie O’Donnell (I guess they aren’t feuding?), Sandra Bernhard, Dr. Drew (Andy tweeted that he, Sandra and Dr. Drew were at the same table), Robert Downey Jr., Larry King, Harvey Weinstein, David Spade, Johnny Knoxville, Joan Rivers, Dave Grohl, George Takei, Jeff Probst, Heidi Klum, John Stamos, Louis C.K., Kathy Griffin, David Letterman, Bryan Cranston, Chelsea Handler, Chris Christie, Lena Dunham, Whoopie Goldberg, Sarah Silverman and Tracy Morgan. And because it was Howard’s party, highs and lows were in evidence and in your face as Tan Mom and assorted unique characters were also there.
As for Beth–she’s got lots to celebrate too as the host of the inaugural Kitten Bowl, which will be airing on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, February 2, at noon. Hats off to this lovely lady–and mom to pets Apple, Walter, Leon Bear, Charlie Boy and Bella–who is an extremely dedicated animal advocate. She’s done so much for so many of our furry friends. Her latest project is Bianca’s Furry Friends, a newly planned Feline Adoption and Wellness Center at the North Shore Animal League.
Cheers to the Sterns.
*Photo by me at a La Palestra event this summer. Lighting not great but look at how happy they look. : )

Andy Cohen Celebrates Christmas

Andy Cohen Celebrates Christmas

Last night Shelter Islander Andy Cohen helped kick off the shopping season at Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan by showing up and leading the crowds to the annual unveiling of the holiday windows.
He’s been a busy guy lately–starting up his own production company, bottling Lady Gaga’s urine to make perfume and refereeing all of the “Real Housewives” catfights; all the while hosting his “Watch What Happens Live” show and killing it as vice president of development and talent at Bravo. I don’t know how he does it all but he’s very, very good at it and I applaud my fellow pop culture-obsessed media friend and man about town.
I interviewed Andy last year when he came to talk about his book, “Most Talkative: Stories from the Front Lines of Pop Culture,” at the Shelter Island Library. I’m posting the link below.
A fun fact about Andy: he’s taller than you would expect, but his little backside is perhaps the smallest bottom I have ever seen. I’m talking like the size of my two hands. We were at the same magazine event earlier this year and all I wanted to do was grab his tiny tushy and squeeze it. Practicing extreme self control and decorum, I managed to keep my hands to myself. But it was a challenge. : )
I took this photo of Andy, one of my favorites, at the Miracle House benefit in Bridgehampton a couple of years ago. Look closely and you’ll see his face etched on the Maker’s Mark bottle.

Senator Mark Consuelos?

Senator Mark Consuelos?

Southampton resident Mark Consuelos is riding high right now. Not only is he starring as the sex-crazed junior Senator with Presidential aspirations (are there any other kind?) in Amazon’s “Alpha House,” he was also on the biggest ratings-getter for Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” on Monday night.
He’s in good company with “Alpha House,” which premieres on Amazon on Friday. The show was written by Garry Trudeau and stars John Goodman, Clark Johnson, Matt Malloy and Mark as four senators who share a house in Washington, D.C.
He was in even better (ha!) company on Monday night with Shelter Island part-timer Andy Cohen and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” spitfire Brandi Glanville. Approximately 922,000 people tuned in to get all the hot gossip, according to the Bravo ratings site.
Way to go Mark! This new show looks absolutely dishy. Can’t wait to tune in and see if it lives up to all the juicy hype.

Bravo guessing game

Bravo guessing game

We already know that’s Dina Lohan in the photo from yesterday’s post but do you know who the two embracing in the background are? Both are from the Bravo stable. Bonus if you know where the photo was taken. I’m guessing that diehard fans of the Andy Cohen network should recognize the place immediately.
The answers will be revealed at the end of the day.

Hamptons magazine party

Hamptons magazine party

Walked in with Andy Cohen, bumped into Katie Lee, spied Christie Brinkley and Rosanna Scotto at the step and repeat, but most importantly WE were there. : ) Fun hang with Courtney Ratcliffe and Cindy Lou Wakefield at night two of ArtHamptons, at the Hamptons magazine VIP party.
