A Hamptons Happening Photo Gallery

Good news from the 13th annual A Hamptons Happening celebration, which benefits the research programs of the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation. The event marked the announcement of two new SWCRF research grants and closed with exciting performances by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright and recording artist Sophie Beem, a protégé of Beyoncé

Held at the Bridgehampton estate of Maria and Kenneth Fishel, the fundraiser included the announcements of two separate grants created by the SWCRF in collaboration with the Kate McGarrigle Foundation and the Ann Liguori Foundation for research in sarcoma and ovarian cancer.

This year’s benefit was chaired by event Co-Founder Marion Waxman and co-chairs Karen Amster-Young, Chris Arlotta, Jake Croman, Erica Linden-Fineberg, Jacob Frisch, Jessica Mackin-Cipro, Jennifer Saraf Myles and Jake Taub. Notable attendees included: Lori Stokes, Sharon Wilkes Kinberg and Robert Kinberg, Sybil and David Yurman, Elin and Michael Nierenberg, Maria and Kenneth Fishel, Sandy and Marc Taub, Pamela Morgan, Norena Barbella, Laurie Schaffran, James Frankel, Lewis A. Photos: Personal Vision Opening

Jamie Forbes, her son and daughter in law

Celebrating three talented East End artists, the Jamie Forbes Gallery in Center Moriches held an opening reception for “Personal Vision,” featuring the work of Kimberly Goff, Carol Hunt and Ty Stroudsburg on Saturday.  In case you missed it, there’s still time as the show will remain on view for the next month. Goody!

Thanks for the photos Kimberly!

Authors Night Photos

Word nerds unite! Man, I heart Authors Night. It’s one of my very favorite events of the year. So many incredible wordsmiths and culture changers under one roof. It’s pretty freakin’ amazing. And all for a wonderful cause–the East Hampton Library. Yippee!

Some of the more buzz-worthy scribes in attendance this year, in no particular order: Malcolm Nance, Jean Kennedy Smith, Dick Cavett, Robert Caro, Alec Baldwin, Hilaria Baldwin, Jessica Seinfeld, Alan Alda, Peter Marino, Elizabeth Vargas, Marshall Watson, Chris Whipple and Ann Coulter. Click on the pix to see them, and many more!

Food Truck Derby Photos

Yum, yum, yum! Who doesn’t love some food truck fun!

Thanks Edible East End for throwing this delicious event for the past six years. And thanks to the food truck vendors who show up and make it tasty!

Craving some flavor? Check out my photos to see who was there and what they were serving.

Anewyoricanthing serving – Gandule salad with white rice or roast pork with spicy, garlic aioli slaw sliders or tres leche cupcakes. I should have gotten photos of the cupcakes, which were DIVINE and the homemade and super refreshing organic ginger lemonade–all homemade by one family.  This stop was a muy delicioso surprise!

Blondie’s Bake Shop serving – Tripe Threat Brownies

Chiddy’s Cheesesteaks serving – Cheesesteaks

Eat Me Drink Me serving – Hand-cut Fries at the Blue Truck and Beignets Two Ways – Nutella or Summer Berry Sauce at the Purple Truck. This magical truck always puts a smile on my face. As did the spicy mayo fries. Mmmmm mmmm mmmmm.

Elegant Eats serving – Hummus (choice or regular or chipotle) served with toasted multigrain pita or Hulk Salad (baby spinach, mixed greens, shaved pear, snow peas, manchego cheese, zucchini curls, poppy seed vinaigrette) or Pulled Chicken Slider (served with sweet slaw and homemade raspebbery BBQ sauce on a multi seed roll). No surprise that this truck was a big hit here in the healthy Hamptons, where the line was always long.

Hampton Coffee Company serving – Local hand-roasted hot coffee, their famous iced coffee, and espresso and lattes

Nice Buns Slammin Sliders serving – Italian Chicken Slider (grilled marinated Italian chicken topped with roasted red pepper, mozzarella cheese, and a pesto aioli) or their Homemade Sloppy Joe Slider

noah’s on the road serving – Esquitas grilled local sweet corn with queso fresco, cayenne and Mexican crema. This is the very first truck I make sure to hit whenever I see it. The Mexican-flair corn definitely did not disappoint. Yumtastic!

OPA! on the go serving – Lamb and beef gyro or Spanokopita

Dressen’s Famous Donuts Truck serving – Dressen’s Famous Donuts (choice of traditional plain, powdered sugar or cinnamon). There’s a sweet reason this place is so famous. : )

King Andrew Cheese serving – Flights or cheese and charcuterie with jam/pickle/honey pairings and sliced baguette, crackers, grapes. Love this idea. Could definitely use more. I’m a fool for a good cheese flight.

Photos: Springs Artists Invitational

Owain Hughes, Jerry and Stephanie Brody-Lederman, Kimberly Goff,

One of the best things about living out east is that there are artists everywhere. How lovely to be surrounded by such creativity, and to be able to claim so many of these talented people as friends. Thanks Kimberly Goff for capturing the scene at Ashawagh Hall for the opening of the 50th Annual Springs Improvement Society‘s Invitational Exhibit this past weekend and sharing here.

Photos: Southampton Hospital Benefit

Ken Wright, Tom Kirdahy, Terrance McNally, Robert Chaloner

So many events, so little time. First world problems for sure.  : )

Apologies for the delay.

I’ve got pix from the always fantastic Southampton Hospital — now Stony Brook Southampton Hospital — annual benefit on Saturday night, which raised more than $1.5 million for the Jenny & John Paulson Emergency Department and brought out 700 of our heaviest Hamptons hitters. Thanks Lisa Tamburini for getting so many good shots! Always appreciated. And (whisper) apologies for driving you and Lenny crazy that night.

Honk If You Love the Food Truck Derby!

Woohoo! The Great Food Truck Derby returns to the Hamptons tomorrow, Friday, August 11, and my mouth is watering already.

Sponsored by Edible East End, this is a terrific event where you can bring the whole family for a bonanza of mobile eats rarely seen on the East End. Get ready to make way for the caravan of New York City and Long Island food trucks park amidst potato fields at the Hayground School in Bridgehampton.

I’ve been to many a Food Truck Derby and let me tell you, every year is a treat! Here are a few of the things we can’t wait to eat and drink:
1. Triple Threat Brownies
That’s right; Blondie’s Bake Shop will be serving up what they call the “Neil Patrick Harris” of baked goods: A chocolate chip cookie stacked with an oreo and a brownie. Why have one treat when you can have three?

2. Cheesesteaks
Philadelphia is a lot further than Bridgehampton—and I heard more than a few people at last year’s Derby deeming Chiddy’s CheeseSteaks even better than ones they previously enjoyed in Philly. Don’t take my word for it though; try one of Chiddy’s cheesy, beefy masterpieces for yourselves.

3. Oysters
Now here’s an epic victory for epicureans: The Walrus and The Carpenter’s Traveling Oyster Company. Yes, really. An oyster truck! Stop by for oysters and clams on the half-shell. I’ll be the blonde woman loitering outside, waiting like a seagull for leftovers.

4. Beer BQ Pulled Pork Sliders
Oh, Noah’s on the Road. I could write a sonnet about Noah’s tacos, salads and sliders. Instead, I’ll just tell you to save room for their Beer BQ Pulled Pork Sliders, served with coleslaw on a Martin’s bun. Farm-to-foodtruck done right.

5. Rosé
Yes way, rosé! Wainscott Main will be at our Derby, pouring red, white and rosé. Be sure to stop by for a sip and to say hi to Wainscott Main’s own Chimene Macnaughton. She knows her stuff (and her stuff is, always, excellent).

Wait, there’s more:
