Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center will present Neil LaBute’s “Reasons to be Pretty,” opening on Friday, January 11, and staging through January 27.
The show, to be staged at SCC’s Levitas Center for the Arts, tells the dark tale (of course, it’s Neil LaBute after all) of a relationship in free-fall after Greg makes a totally clueless remark about his girlfriend Steph’s “regular” looking face.
Relationships 101: Not cool dude. Oy.
The Tony Award-nominated play originally starred Pablo Schreiber, who earned the 2009 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play in 2009, and also Piper Perabo, Alison Pill and Thomas Sadoski. Whoa! The SCC production stars Bethany Dellapolla, Jonathan Fogarty, John Lovett and Bethany Trowbridge. Joan M. Lyons directs.
Interestingly, LaBute wrote a sequel to the play, called “Reasons to be Happy,” which features the same four characters several years later. That show starred Jenna Fischer, Josh Hamilton, Leslie Bibb and Frederick Weller. That’s cool.
Performances will run January 11 to January 27 : Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays a 7:00 pm, and Sundays at 2:30 pm on the stage of The Levitas Center for the Arts, 25 Pond Lane, Southampton, across from Agawam Park. General admission is $25 and student and group rates available. Brunch/theater and dinner theater packages available at http://www.scc-arts.org or by calling 631-287-4377. Reservations are encouraged.
