Welcome to the weekend. Woohoo.
Here’s what’s happening here in the Hamptons. Hopefully we will be getting some decent enough weather. Especially since tonight there’s a fun-filled Spotlight on Boating launch party and trade show being held at the Breakwater Yacht Club in Sag Harbor. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. and is being sponsored by the Sag Harbor Express.
For this next one, it doesn’t matter what the temperature is outside because it’s going to be cooking at Stony Brook Southampton on Friday and Saturday as Bobby Flay and David Barber head to town to headline the third annual Food Lab Conference. The theme this year will be “50 Years of Food in America: 1970-2020” during the two-day event featuring entertaining and informative talks and tastings, cocktail parties and a gala dinner. Flay will discuss his personal view of “Food, Cooking and a Brief Personal History of Food Television.” Barber, who is the genius behind one of the world’s best restaurants, Blue Hill at Stone Barn and the Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture, will talk about future directions in the food world, and opportunities to incorporate new technologies in shaping them. Other notable guests include: Tanya Steel, former Editor in Chief at Epicurious.com and founder of the Obama White House Kids Healthy Cooking initiative; Jack Bishop, Editor in Chief, Cooks Illustrated and host of “America’s Test Kitchen”; author and Julia Child biographer Alex Prud’homme; Nancy Hopkins, editor of Better Homes and Gardens; Matchbook Distilling founder Leslie Merinoff; Wolffer Vineyards winemaker Roman Roth; and Ron Tanner, the executive vice president of the Specialty Foods Association.
There will be plenty of food and tasty bevvies, plus a ton of friends at the annual Connections and Cocktails networking mixer, sponsored by hamptons.com and Bridgehampton National Bank, at Union Cantina in Southampton on Friday night. Hope to see you there!
The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill is gearing up for a full-on gardening weekend. The events begins “Inter-Sections: The Architect in Conversation” on Friday, June 9, exploring “The Aesthetics of Sustainability.” On Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, the museum presents its annual two-day horticulture event, “Landscape Pleasures.”
Canio’s Books in Sag Harbor also has its hands full this weekend with a “Moby Dick Marathon Reading” from Friday at 9 a.m. to Saturday at 6 p.m. Fun!
And the Lynn Blue Band is making their own marathon weekend plans, starting at the Wolffer Wine Stand in Sagaponack on Friday night from 5 p.m. to sunset and then heading way out east to the Montauket on Saturday for an evening gig from 6 to 9 p.m.
On Saturday, June 10, the Montauk Yacht Club is kicking off its “Paint and Sip” series, which will be held every Saturday from 4 to 6 through the season. Presented in conjunction with The Salty Canvas, the activities include two of our favorite activities.
Saturday night brings the third annual Trunks of Love Gala at The Baker House in East Hampton. The event, which benefits Veterinarians International, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Get your tickets here.
