The Southampton Town Board will hold its preliminary 2017 Budget Meeting on Tuesday, October 25, at 6 p.m. at the Hampton Bays Community Center–not at its usual place at Southampton Town Hall. The change of venue is meant to open up a dialogue within the community as a whole, and not just to continue on in the same old space, says Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman.
“We know the budget is always of interest to our residents,” says Mr. Schneiderman. “We’re looking forward to going into the community to hear what they have to say.”
The preliminary $94.7 million 2017 Budget, submitted by Supervisor Schneiderman last month, proposes a nearly 2-percent drop in the property tax rate, the largest reduction in the tax rate in more than a decade. Woohoo!
The budget may be amended through the budget process, but it must be adopted by the Town Board on or before November 20. Can’t make the meeting? Then watch it on SEA TV or find the full budget document on the Southampton Town website.
