The Southampton Review has created a Frank McCourt Memoir Prize for its Summer/Fall 2016 issue. What this means for you is the possibility of winning a $1,000 first prize or $500 second prize for your writing. It also means that your work will be published in the exclusive literary and fine art journal of the MFA in Creative Writing and Literature program at Stony Brook Southampton, which is traditionally launched during the final weekend of the annual Southampton Writers Conference in July. Meaning that some super big deal writers will also have your hot little number in their hands. Cool.
The memoir prize was named for McCourt in honor of his memory and his achievements, as well as to encourage writers submitting memoir pieces to remember the value of lacing a sense of humor into even the gravest circumstances, according to TSR editor-in-chief Lou Ann Walker. The “Angela’s Ashes” Pulitzer Prize winner taught workshops at the Southampton Writers Conference for a number of years before his death in 2009.
Interested? Then head online and and get cracking! The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2016.
