If you haven’t been to one of the Dance Fusion performances at the Southampton Cultural Center, you are really missing out. But the good news is that it’s not too late to buy tickets to Saturday’s workshop and performance with Jason Samuels Smith and the Jazz Roots Company.
During the Dance Workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, which is open to all, Emmy winner Jason Samuels Smith (who the NY Times calls “one of the best hoofers around”) and Sue Samuels of Jazz Roots Dance will lead a fun open-level class that plays with the similarities in Jazz and Tap Dance styles. Tap and jazz shoes or soft-soled and hard-soled shoes suggested. The performance, which will be from 6 to 7 p.m., also on Saturday, November 7, will include dynamic improvography by Jason Samuels Smith along with several repertory favorites from Jazz Roots Dance featuring musical favorites across the decades. The evening will also feature an excerpt of their new collaborative work-in-progress to D’Angelo’s “Sugah Daddy.”
As a board member of the SCC, I’m so pleased and proud to be a small part of this exciting series, which is really the biggest, best and most consistent dance programming on the East End. Tickets are a crazy good deal at $35 for the workshop and $40 for the performance, and only $20 each for students age 18 and younger. Make reservations online at www.scc-arts.org or by calling 631-287-4377.
