Actress Brooke Shields has opened up her Southampton cottage to the world.
The Lewis Street home, which she shares with husband, screenwriter Chris Henchy, and their daughters Rowan and Grier, is profiled in the September issue of Better Homes and Gardens. (Fun facts about Henchy: He was a writer on “The Larry Sanders Show,” one of my faves from way back in the day, and is also the creator, along with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, of the uber popular “Funny or Die” website.) The couple purchased the Southampton Village property in 2013 for $4.3 million from New York Giant tight end Vyto Kab. The renovated 4,500-square-foot 1920s-era farmhouse has been modernized throughout, while still maintaining its country charm flair.
Aside from the beach scene hanging in the breakfast nook, by Pulitzer Prize winner Vincent Laforet no less, I’m most interested in the outdoor-to-indoor spaces, which looks casually inviting. The covered dining area is oh so Hamptons, yet still unpretentious and charming.
Also of note is how the actress has approached the design of her lower level family room. These spaces, which tend to resemble either bunkers or cavernous airport hangers, are tough. The La-Z-Boy spokesperson’s cheerful approach—creamy wainscotting and soft grey-blue walls accented with pops of hot pink–is casually elegant and quite winning here.
