Stage Is Set for Southampton Arts Center

New doings in Southampton Village.

New doings in Southampton Village.

While strolling by the Southampton Arts Center on Jobs Lane yesterday, I was very pleased to see that the outdoor stage is up and ready to showcase some talent. Just in time too, as today is a big day for this newish organization, helmed by the lovely Director Michele Thompson (and assisted by Program Associate Allison Bourquin, who is an absolute doll), in Southampton Village.
Kicking off the summer season are two visual art exhibitions, “The Irrational Portrait Gallery: A Collaborative Portrait Project by Rick Wenner” and “FRESH and Off The Block: NYFA Fellows @ Southampton Arts Center.” “The Irrational Portrait Gallery” contains the work of 21 Long Island artists, who were photographed by acclaimed portrait photographer Rick Wenner. “Off The Block” showcases works by Hiroyuki Hamada of East Hampton, Andreas Rentsch of Huntington and Claire Watson (Yay! Love her!!) of Water Mill. All are New York Foundation for the Arts Fellows.
Both exhibits will be on view today and will remain on view through July 20. An opening wine reception with the artists will be held Saturday, June 28, at 5 p.m.
Tomorrow night, the “Friday Outdoor Screenings with Hamptons International Film Festival” will begin at 8:30 p.m. The series kicks off with “Ghostbusters” and will run, with new films each Friday, through August 29.
Coming up next Friday, there will be a July 4 Post-Parade Party with WPPB 88.3FM, starting at 2 p.m. And on Saturday, July 5, our favorite chanteuse, Melissa Errico, will perform “Broadway Firecracker!” Congrats to all and welcome to the neighborhood!
